Granuloma / Periapical Cyst
These terms refer to a chronic abscess associated with a tooth and are the result of chronic periapical inflammation.
Clinical findings associated with a granuloma:
- the involved tooth is non-vital
- the involved tooth has a large carious lesion, recurrent decay or something else that has caused the pulp to die
- the involved tooth is asymptomatic (yes, this is a non-painful abscess)
- the periapical area on a radiograph shows a periapical radiolucency
